Creating A Peaceful Morning

‘Each morning we are born again. What we do today is what matters most’ -Buddha

Every morning is a fresh start to the day ahead of us. The way we set up our mornings sets the tone for the entire day. Do you have those mornings where you are hurrying around; trying to finish as much as possible before rushing out the door? Checking social media, eating breakfast on the way, if at all, and then leaving the house in a state of frenzy. This can leave you frazzled and disconnected for the rest of the day. Starting your day with quiet and relaxation, can center you, allowing for a more productive day with a clear head. A morning routine can instill a sense of purpose, peace, and ritual to your day.

Here are a few ideas to get you started and what I do every morning. Do not feel tied down to any order or set of activities. This is your morning and you can customize it to fit your specific needs. Try a few different ones out on alternate mornings, adopting the ones that leave you feeling the most peaceful and set to tackle the day.

Mornings:

Hydrate, after a full night of sleep your body is dehydrated and needs fuel. It is best to start your day off with some H2O. A great way to get your metabolism going in the morning is a glass of warm water with lemon. Get drinking!

Meditate, now I know some might be thinking, what meditate? This can be as simple as a 5 minute guided meditation, or just sitting listening to some relaxing music for a short period of time. YouTube is a great place to find a short guided meditations for free! Mediation has been proven to have many benefits, such as: help focus, reduce stress, increase self-awareness, reduces anxiety, and blood pressure, to name a few. Be still!

Journaling, again this can be 5 minutes of anything you feel comfortable with. A great way to get started is intention setting, where you write a few thoughts for the day ahead of you and what goals you would like to accomplish that day. Another great example is giving thanks. Writing some things that you are grateful for can be a reminder of all the good that is in your life. Write away!

Exercise, now this does not have to be anything strenuous or long. Jumping on a rebounder for 5 minutes can get the blood flowing and help you feel energized. Jumping jacks, or putting on some fun music to just dance around are other examples of movement; which do not involve even leaving the house. Exercise also helps your physical and mental health. So, get moving!

Breakfast, eat something nourishing and fuel your body with nutrients that it needs. The old saying, breakfast is the most important meal of the day is true. Eating breakfast gets your metabolism going and energizes you for the day. Eat up!

Now, having a new morning routine may require you to get up 30 minutes earlier than normal, but the benefits will leave you empowered to take on the day with more energy and focus than you have in the past. This is just a start- there are plenty of ways to mix up your morning and revitalize your day.
